WET DELUGE TESTING

The prime objective for a deluge system is to cool equipment and prevent escalation in a fire incident. The current statutory regime applicable to UK offshore oil and gas processing facilities places a requirement on the duty holder to maintain the integrity of the facilities, and to ensure that equipment can be operated safely and a safe working environment maintained. As part of maintaining compliance with current statutory requirements it is necessary to prove that each deluge system will operate as designed in the event of an emergency. This is proven by clients by carrying out wet deluge testing on a regular basis.

Clearwater Fire Solutions offer a full wet deluge testing service backed up with a robust reporting procedure in place that allows clients to demonstrate compliance. Depending on client requirements the system operation can effectively be proven back to the Fire & Gas panel by initiating the deluge release via the Fire & Gas detection.

The wet testing consists of a complete service to the client by Clearwater personnel from the supply and fitment of water ingress protection around the affected areas to the submittal of a detailed and comprehensive report for each system tested.

During the testing each system area is walked to identify any issues with coverage from damaged nozzles or plant obstructions. Volumetric flows, pressures and density application rates are recorded and the results are correlated against the client’s hydraulic calculations to ensure the system is hydraulically balanced and meets or exceeds the minimum design standards. Any blocked nozzles or bracket issues are dealt with at the time of testing using Clearwater rope access personnel. This ensures that each system is left in a fit for purpose condition every time.

Following a successful wet deluge test it is important to ensure that the deluge valve is in servicable condition and resets without any issues. Clearwater Fire Solutions offer a complete deluge valve assembly overhaul, inclusive of upstream and downstream isolation valves and all clapper/clack or elastomeric type automatic deluge valves. We are fully conversant and qualified with all elastomeric and clack type deluge valves. Each deluge skid assembly is overhauled and following completion is issued with a certificate of conformity with recommendations for any future work or routine servicing that is required.
